The Canadian immigration Express Entry (EE) system grants eligible applicants PR (permanent resident) statuses once they satisfy certain criteria, apply, and wait for a certain amount of time while their applications are being processed.
However, many people do not realize that there is a way to enter the EE draw poll, be selected for PR, and even receive the desired status without even entering Canada once.
How does this work you may ask? Well, the EE system is based on points assigned to each applicant as I mentioned above and, therefore, if a person has enough points to enter the draw poll, they do not technically need to satisfy all those additional points that we are used to see for Canadian PR immigration like “a year of full-time job experience in Canada”.
Instead, a person, for example, may
Have a decent level of English proficiency,
Have Masters degree or a PHD from a non-Canadian university, and
Have three years of qualified non-Canadian work experience.
In this case, a person would have enough points to enter the EE system without even entering Canada and having any ties with it, provided the other qualities of an applicant (like age or criminal history) do not subtract the points.
Next, the hypothetical person we described above needs to apply for PR through EE system, and they will receive the status before entering Canada. The PR card and the official status will be assigned to them at the Canadian border at an airport.
As you can see, the main advantage PHD grants applicants in the Canadian Immigration is that it allows an applicant to use a quite unconventional way of immigration since a higher than Bachelor level of education like PHD provides the additional points that allow a person to be selected in EE draw.
Thus, if you are somebody who are in their twenties or thirties and who are attaining Masters or PHD and simultaneously work, think about immigrating to Canada, you may be eligible even if you have not been there!
